There was huge excitement at Hayesdown First School as it held a rocket science day.
“Starting the day with a bang, the school welcomed visitors from Bath University Rocket Scientist Team and Female Engineers, who led a school assembly and got everyone excited about building their own rockets during the day.,” said Lyn Kelly from the school. The lucky children in Year 4 spent the day with the visitors and created rockets from plastic bottles which were powered by air and water pressure – these were successfully launched on the field at the end of the day.”
One budding Year 4 scientist stated, “It has been so exciting – our rockets flew higher than the trees!”. Another pupil said “We have been predicting what would happen and then testing and launching our rockets – our balloon rockets travelled over 7 metres!”
Children across the school joined in enthusiastically, with straw rockets, balloon rockets, fizzy rockets and bottle rockets being fired into the air all over the school grounds and across the classrooms.
“The school aims to inspire children to work hard and be ambitious about their learning, so it was a wonderful opportunity to work with Bath University experts to develop budding scientists, engineers and even astronauts for the future!” added Lyn.
