Rotary clubs take Frome children to Longleat

More than 80 children from Frome enjoyed a day out at Longleat Safari Park as part of an annual event organised by Rotary clubs across Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset.

Children from Vallis First School, Hayesdown First School, St John’s First School and young carers supported by The Pod attended the Rotary Children’s Fun Day last month, alongside their teachers, carers and helpers.

The event was organised by Rotary clubs across the three counties, with support from the three Rotary clubs in Frome. In total, 17 Rotary clubs were involved in giving more than 1,000 children from 53 schools the opportunity to enjoy a day at Longleat.

The day included a trip around the Safari Park and access to the attraction’s activities. Longleat staff helped run the event and were also celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Safari Park.

Frome Mayor Cllr Mark Dorrington attended the event to meet the children and organisers.

Treasurer of Frome Selwood Rotary Geoff Cardnell said, “The children clearly enjoyed themselves despite sporadic rain. Thanks must go to Longleat staff for their organisation and commitment in making the day such a success.”

The annual event, formerly known as Kids Out, has been running locally since 1990 and has provided days out for tens of thousands of children.

The event cost more than £17,000 and was supported financially by Rotary clubs and the Kids in Mind charity.
