Four goals from Ben Wright and a hat trick from Ryan Pennery gave bottom-of-the-table Gosport a resounding 7-0 over Frome, where the player crisis is now so severe that the visitors could only field ten players from the start and with obviously no substitutes.
Right from the start it was one-way traffic and after several close chances, Gosport took the lead in the 8th as Wright slotted home a Pennery pass. The pair combined again in the 21st as this time Wright crossed for Pennery to head home, and with Pennery completing his hat trick with sharply-taken goals in the 30th and 36th, following indecision in the Frome defence, the 4-0 half time scoreline was becoming embarrassing for the visitors.
The second half was more of the same, and with Wright getting a second half hat trick as he fired home from close range in the 69th, he finished off a pass from Olusanyu in the 72nd and found space in the box to turn and shoot home in the 89th. The 7-0 thrashing will live long in the memory of Gosport fans and will be one that Frome fans will be keen to forget.
