A cake sale at Hayesdown First School, held in memory of a parent at the school, raised £420 for Dorothy House last month.
The Friends of Hayesdown PTA wanted to raise money for Dorothy House who cared for Sophie Spicer, a parent at the school, before she died in March this year.
Headteacher at the school, Sue Heal said, “£420 is double the amount generally raised at a school cake sale – testimony to the high regard those of us who had the privilege of knowing Sophie, hold her in.”
Sophie’s husband Gareth and son Finlay said, “We wish to thank everyone on the PTA for organising the event in memory of Sophie and to everyone in the Hayesdown community for their generosity.
“It was an amazing effort which raised valuable funds for Dorothy House, as well as awareness of the wonderful work which they do for patients and their families.
“It was emotional watching a playground full of children and parents coming together to buy and eat cake, but it’s exactly what Sophie would have wanted!”
