Remakery: Frome and SHARE – A Library of Things invite everyone to join the celebration of their recent win in the ITV People’s Projects at their Repair Cafe on Sunday 10th June.
This event is both a thank you to everyone who supported their bid and an opportunity for them to showcase their new, monthly get-togethers of making and mending.
They say, “Bring along your broken items and SHARE’s volunteer fixers will help you get them back in good shape if they can. It’s free, but please book your place in advance at https://remakeryshare.eventbrite.co.uk.
“There will be people on hand to help with: clothing (torn jeans, moth-holed jumpers etc); bikes (bring them in for a spring maintenance check); small electrical items (toasters, kettles, lamps, clocks, etc); small pieces of furniture (wobbly chair legs, broken picture frames) and other stuff: (toys, crockery, pots and pans). In fact, bring anything you like – our fixers will do their best! There will also be tea and cake to celebrate winning the funding from the ITV Peoples Projects.
“Thanks to funding from The People’s Projects, these SHARE Repair Cafes will then run monthly (for the next 12 months) on the second Sunday of each month 3pm-5pm at Remakery: Frome, The Welsh Mill Hub, Park Hill Drive, BA11 2LE.
“SHARE has been running occasional repair events for over a year, and its fixers have achieved a high level of success. At the last event in April, around three-quarters of items were either fixed or people were given advice on how to get them working again, such as by ordering new parts. Not all items can be fixed, but there will also be information on how to find a professional repairer, or how to dispose of items in the best way for the environment.
“When it comes to clothing and textiles, we will also be able to offer expert help and advice turning outdated or ill-fitting clothes into something fresh and new!”
SHARE co-manager Aliss Vaas said, “People don’t need to throw items away just because they have gone out of fashion. Instead, they can use them to create something new and unique that suits them perfectly.”
There is no charge for the event, but donations towards SHARE are welcome. Please book your place here: https://remakery share.eventbrite.co.uk
