The changeable North Wales weather and the biggest mountain in England and Wales didn’t stop several members of Frome Running Club from heading for Snowdonia for the inaugural Snowdonia Trail Marathon and Half Marathon.
As if the course wasn’t hard enough (clue: it’s a bit hilly) the summer weather gods delivered buckets of rain, making the tough conditions even tougher.
Despite all this, all Frome Running Club athletes completed the respective courses, and clocked up some decent times while they were at it.
In the half marathon, Ade Marchment (MV50) led the Frome runners in 3:09:25, followed by Lynn Brand (FV50) 3:12:53, Victoria Penman (FV40) 3:24:31, Jo Riley (FV45) 3:50:43, Sara Elliott (FV50) 3:58:48, Emma Flexon (FV40) 4:10:08, Paddy Mead (MV40) 4:26:57.
In the marathon (which ended up being more like 29 miles than 26.2), Ian Holmes (MV40) was first home in 5:20:37, Lee Stone (MV40) 5:30:33, Fran Hunter (SF) 5:51:19, Jo Kirk (SF) 6:37:32, Steve Carroll (MV50) and Richard Corp (MV40) both finished in 7:23:25, while Catharine Dowling (SF), Kate Wareham (FV40) and Fiona Norris (FV50) all crossed the line in 7:56:10.
Frome Running Club offers both on and off-road training and welcomes new members, whatever the ability. For more details, visit www.fromerunningclub.org.uk
