St Louis Catholic Primary School End of Year Report

St Louis Catholic Primary School has enjoyed a very busy and exciting autumn term, with the children taking part in a number of activities and events. 

“Just some of the highlights include a performance of The Secret Garden in the school hall performed by a visiting theatre company and followed up with workshops for Years 5 and 6. We were also visited by a member of Frome Apple Society who helped us to collect and press the many apples from our orchard, resulting in some delicious apple juice for the children and volunteers to share. Year 1 got to see Brian Mortimer demonstrate his vintage bicycles and all year groups had martial arts sessions with Mr Roach.   

“November saw our wellbeing week, during which the children enjoyed activities that are important ingredients for their own well-being, such as being mindful, active, spiritual and caring. As part of our well-being week we welcomed a number of visitors into our school including Cheryl from Mojo moves who led each class in a session of dance and exercise; Jacqui Grey, author of my Magical Garden with whom we were all given the opportunity to take part in a guided mediation session; and Father Richard who helped us to think about the spiritual element of our well-being. 

“Not only have the children been taking part in lots of activities, they have also been taking the lead in a number of their own initiatives. The beginning of the term saw Year 4 set a challenge for the whole school to take part in. Their aim was to ensure that we are as healthy as possible as a school and are making healthy choices. They monitored our choices, collecting and presenting the data. with the winning class being awarded a special healthy treat! Our school council have also had a busy time, tasked with planning and resourcing our new outside classroom, space we are all able to enjoy.  

“As a school we have also been thinking about how we can contribute to our wider community. Year 6 planned and ran our Macmillan coffee morning, raising £213.00 for the charity. We all ran a mile with Rachel Clarke to raise awareness and funds for the WHY cancer charity, with donations from our Christmas performances also going to WHY. In November we were joined by Teresa from Edukaid, a UK-based charity which supports and provides education in rural Tanzania. We have since established links with a school in Tanzania, exchanging letters, photos and celebrating our work together. We will continue to fund raise during the year and support the school, where a little can go a long way!

“The end of the term saw our reception, year 1, year 2, year 3 and year 4 classes performing their wonderful Christmas nativities and our final event of the year, St Louis’ Christmas Carol Concert taking place at St Catharine’s Church. 

“We are all looking forward to another busy term!”
