Course spaces are selling fast as the start of term approaches for Frome Community Education.
This Community Interest Company, a not-for-profit organisation, was founded in 2011 to provide classes for adults who like to learn for pleasure. It specialises in providing affordable classes, expert tutors and innovative courses in venues across Frome.
If you have not yet picked up one of their brochures around town, you can choose from course categories including Languages (Spanish, French, German and Italian), Words and Literature (including creative writing), Health and Wellbeing, Culture and a huge variety of Arts and Crafts classes.
“This term we have added even more new courses to the programme,” said Malcolm Lloyd, chair of Frome Community Education. “Building on the success of earlier courses, we now have follow-on courses with Interior Design and Decoration PLUS with Charles Prior, and Philosophy – Next Steps with Graham Burgess. We continue to build on our Arts and Crafts offering with two new watercolour 1-day courses with Catherine Beale, a Sea Painting workshop with Jeanette Magson and a new Collage course “In the Footsteps of Pop Art” with Jessica Wilker.”
Another new course beginning in January includes “Mindfulness – Me Time; This Is For Me!” For those who are always putting others first to the detriment of their own wellbeing, this course helps unpick the habits, roles and routines that can overwhelm them. As tutor Chris Barker explains, “Mindfulness is a unique process that does not change what life brings us. It changes what we do next.”
If you have an idea for a course, then programme manager, Pia McGee would love to hear from you. “We are always looking for more ways to expand our programme. If there is a course you would like to do that isn’t listed, or, if you would like to teach a course that you don’t see featured, please email us at info@fromecommed.org.uk We would love to hear from potential tutors of current affairs-type courses, and we have had lots of requests for some form of sewing or crochet course. If this could be you, then please get in touch!”
