Last Saturday was a very special day at Steiner Academy Frome’s annual Community Advent Fair. Each year this fundraising fair is organized by the school Parent, Teacher and Friends association as a gift to the local community, children and staff of SAF.
The hot waffles with maple syrup and mulled wine went down a treat as the community listened to fantastic music from the Advent Parent Choir, children’s choirs and the string orchestra. Talented parent musicians such as Carl and The Wochynski’s and Jon Pickard played the day through. Emerging Frome talent and pupil Gwen Sutterby set to the stage with incredible vocals and guitar.
The artisan market looked exceptional this year with thirty five stalls bursting with quality crafts ranging from artisan soap to hand made fashion and toys. There was something for everyone as local residents made fabulous wreaths for their homes and children made bees wax candles, gingerbread and natural bath salts. King Winter appeared at 2pm filling the playground with a wonderful parade of children all eager to sit for the wintery Christmas tale.
At 3pm the fabulous raffle was called with one lucky winner taking home a top prize of a beautiful gold pendant made by local jeweller Shakti Ellenwood worth £500. Many others went home with great prizes such as tickets to festivals, massages and wonderful prizes donated from local Frome businesses.
The school’s Principal, Trevor Mepham summed up the day. “This is one of those days in the year when the school puts on its best clothes and steps out in style. The skies were a bit November-grey, yet the school glowed with beauty and enjoyment and a great time was had by many. The parents, carers and friends of the school combined to create a wonderful event and our thanks goes to them.”
