LOCAL cancer counselling charity, We Hear You, has recently received grant funding from the national Suicide Prevention Grant Fund, which will help support services they deliver over the next 18 months.
The Fund is overseen by the Department of Health and Social Care. Public Health England figures show that one-in-ten suicides are from people with a chronic health condition and this grant will fund counselling sessions with the people who are most at risk.
Lucy Kitchener, CEO at We Hear You said, “Along with every other charity we know, We Hear You is finding fundraising extremely challenging right now. Hearing the news that we have been awarded suicide prevention funding is wonderful, therefore.
“Better still, this grant will fund counselling sessions with the people who come to our service feeling the most distraught. Public Health England figures show that one-in-ten suicides are from people with a chronic health condition. We Hear You supports people who are affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions.”
We Hear You provide counselling and emotional support for patients, families, friends, and carers who have been affected or bereaved by cancer or any other life-threatening condition.
“Despite these challenging times we have been able to see an average of 71 clients a week since the beginning of this financial year,” added Lucy. “Our vision is a world where free access to high quality therapeutic support is available when and where it is needed, for everyone affected by cancer and any other life-threatening conditions.
“Our mission is to provide free therapeutic support for children, families and individuals in Bath & North East Somerset, Somerset & Wiltshire who are affected directly or indirectly by cancer and other life-threatening conditions. When you ask why, we hear you.”
