SOMERSET County Council has developed proposals to introduce a 20-mph zone into Frome town centre to make Frome more pedestrian friendly.
The 20-mph zone will include all town centre streets and extend from a little way uphill of the junction of North Parade and Welshmill Road, through the town centre, up to Rook Lane on Bath Street.
Frome town councillor Mel Usher said, “We’re delighted that the county council is taking forward our proposals for a 20-mph zone. Getting traffic to slow down on the approaches to the Market Place is an important part of making people feel safe as they move around the town centre and more attractive for people to walk around.”
Improving the town centre around Boyle Cross is already under way. The 20-mph zone will follow after consultation and then in the new year, once there is approval by Somerset County Council, there will be improvements to pavements, enhancements to places where people already cross the road plus new bus bays and shelters.
