MENDIP Community Credit Union is appealing for local volunteers to help run the money-saving service as it looks to expand its reach in Frome.
Manager of the Frome branch, Barbara Bacon said, “Frome has been named as one of the best places to live in the UK, but there is another side to our much praised community – a less affluent side where there are real financial needs and where the use of food banks is on the increase.
“This is where our local community-based credit union can be a real help as it can give loans that are cheaper than pay-day lenders and also helps members manage their money to avoid debt and exploitation.
“The organisation is run purely by volunteers and is now looking for people in the community with a few hours to spare, who are interested in helping to make the town more financially inclusive, and lessening the divide between different parts of Frome.
“Knowing what help you are giving is very satisfying work and the other volunteers are very congenial!
“The local team wants to expand in Frome and open other places where people can get help, but can only do so with more volunteers.
