FROME’S elderly residents, those who live alone and those who can’t afford a good Christmas, will be welcomed to the Cheese and Grain for Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together, a good old fashioned Christmas knees-up.
Now in its third year, organisers of this community giant Christmas Day party are looking for volunteers to help in 2013.
Guests will be invited over the next few weeks to take part in a Christmas to remember, making new friends and enjoying a full traditional Christmas lunch, complete with gifts and entertainment. Generous support from local businesses, community groups and individuals in Frome, meant that last year over 100 people enjoyed a brilliant Christmas together.
Run solely by volunteers, who work together to ensure everything is thought of, the event includes venue decorating, food preparation and cooking, to transport for guests, meeting and greeting and washing up. All volunteer jobs were filled in record time last year and this year new faces are particularly welcomed, both in the run-up to Christmas and at the actual event.
Emma Warren, on behalf of the organising group, said, “Everyone deserves a great Christmas, so this event is for those Frome residents who may be alone for all sorts of reasons.
“Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together brings people together to create a really special day and provides people with company and good times. We make a special effort to treat everybody the same on the day, so there is no real distinction between guests and volunteers, just one great community gathering.”
