WILD Memories, the nature group for people living with dementia or memory loss, has returned to the outdoors.
The organisers said, “Our nature group is open to anyone living with dementia or experiencing symptoms of memory loss. Carers or family members are welcome too. It’s all about helping people to retain skills, abilities, and confidence, helping our local wildlife, and above all having fun and socialising. Getting out into green spaces is proven to improve mental and physical wellbeing, and can reduce the negative symptoms associated with dementia, helping people to live well.
“We are running three sessions each week with a range of nature-inspired activities including arts and crafts, watching wildlife, gentle walks, all guided by participants’ preferences and abilities. The sessions are flexible and relaxed – sometimes we just sit and enjoy the scenery.
“Our first few sessions have been a huge success! So far we’ve planted herbs in a medicinal garden, counted butterflies, harvested potatoes, picked blackberries, made nature inspired art, and we have a packed list of activities for the next weeks and months. We always finish off with well-deserved tea and biscuits.
“Our sessions are running every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 11am – 2pm. Participant and staff numbers are limited to 6 to enable lots of space between us. The group is free to attend, and free transport is also available.
For those not ready to join groups just yet, we are continuing to provide a varied programme of free activities to do at home or in the garden.
