TV presenter and wildlife photographer Simon King will be helping Frome to launch an ambitious plan for a ‘clean and healthy future’ at a special event this month.
The event on Saturday 15th October will have entertainment, activities and talks about how the town can cut pollution and will officially launch Frome’s plan to become a zero carbon town over the next 30 years.
“Last month Frome Town Council voted unanimously to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2046, through a combination of energy efficiency measures and generation of renewable heat and power,” said the town council’s resilience officer, Anna Francis.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to improve air quality, reduce energy costs, create jobs and training and ensure we can keep the lights on! The council recognises this ambitious target cannot be met by Frome people alone and we’re pleased to be making such early links to Westminster, churches and local groups.”
MP for Frome, David Warburton, will be along on the day to speak on ways he can help from Westminster.
The day kicks off at 3pm at Christ Church on Christchurch Street West, where schoolchildren will sing songs about caring for the planet.
Free ‘compost champion’ training is also being provided at Trinity Hall from 10am until 4pm for anyone with composting experience who would be keen to help households in Somerset to cut waste and boost soil fertility.
At 4.15pm Simon King and David Warburton MP will gather people at the Cheese and Grain for a photograph. Children’s face painting and free activities will then be provided while Anna Francis and climate expert Mark Letcher give a talk upstairs.
Mark and Anna will be outlining some ways that Frome can cut pollution and costs, and David Warburton MP will be on hand to answer questions around what he and others can do to support Frome in its ambitions.
Both events will take place between 4.30pm and 5.30pm in the meeting rooms upstairs.
