During 2014 the statue of WW1 Private Robins, that had for many years stood outside the factory of Tyco, formerly known as J W Singer and Co Ltd, on Handlemaker Road, was moved to its new site outside the Memorial Theatre.
The moving of the statue was organised and achieved by a lot of hard work and donations from the local community, and was completed towards the end of the summer of 2014.
Frome Film and Video Makers, led by their chairman Ernie Mckenna were given the task of recording, on DVD, the whole of the re-siting exercise. Club members would appear as they were needed to film the various events, and this culminated in the team filming the dedication ceremony that was held on Sunday 3rd August 2014.
The feature-length DVD entitled ‘Welcome Home Charlie Robins’ will be premiered at the Assembly Rooms, behind the Memorial Theatre on Thursday 12th February. Doors will open at 7.00pm and the main performance will commence at 8.00pm.
Invited guests will be all those that had been involved with the re-siting and will be joined by members of the general public. Tickets are free, but restricted in number, and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. For a ticket please contact Ernie Mckenna on 01373 832763 or by email on info@emavideo.co.uk
Copies of the DVD will be on sale on the evening or pre-ordered by contacting Ernie Mckenna on info@emavideo.co.uk or by phone on 01373 832763.
