Your new ‘ears’ resolution

The start of a new year is a time for reflection and rejuvenation. Many of us make resolutions to improve our lives, whether it’s to eat more healthily, exercise more, or learn a new skill. But have you considered a resolution that could significantly impact your quality of life?

Your hearing health is a vital part of your overall well-being and if you’ve noticed any changes in your hearing, such as difficulty understanding conversations in noisy environments or trouble hearing the television, it’s time to act.

That’s the message for local company South West Hearing Care which is based in Westbury town centre.

“South West Hearing Care is here to help,” said Simon Swindells, audiologist and managing director. “With our expert audiology team and state-of-the-art technology, we can assess your hearing health and recommend the best course of action. By booking a hearing test, you’re taking the first step towards a clearer, more connected future.

“Don’t let hearing loss hold you back. Schedule your FREE hearing test with South West Hearing Care today.”

Appointments available in Westbury (01373 823076) and Street (01458 555533) or visit www.swhearingcare.co.uk

Thank you so much to everyone who joined the town in marking the start of Christmas on 21st November what a wonderful night it was! And thank you to the organisers and the many who turned out for a brilliant Cobble Wobble on 23rd November too!

As promised, here is a little background on some more of my councillor colleagues.

Andy Jones has interests in education, finances and the Frome Festival. Polly Lamb, Councillor for Park Ward, is heavily involved in the planning team and eagerly supports women’s voices within the council.

Lisa Merryweather is passionate about mental health and supporting young people. Sara Butler fervently supports the ecology and natural habitats for wildlife. Anne Hills is heavily involved in repurposing digital items, she is the instigator of our White Ribbon campaign and worked with Prosper Frome to campaign for our long-awaited banking hub, now happily dispensing cash and serving residents.

  • Dementia singing group receives Christmas funding boost

A singing group for people with dementia in Frome has received a funding boost from a local charity to support their Christmas celebration.

Songs for the Memory received £750 from the Frome Masons and will use the funds to host a Christmas lunch for members.

One of the organisers of Songs for the Memory, Debby Webster, said, “The Masons’ support really helps us to keep our Songs for the Memory singing sessions free for the local community, something we are very passionate about.”

Songs for the Memory is a singing group for people with dementia and memory problems, and their carers. They meet every Tuesday at the Masonic Hall from 1.30pm to 3pm.

  • Frome Wild Bunch Column – Simple ways to support hedgehogs

At our last Wild Bunch gathering we were joined by Jennie from Keyford Hedgehog Rescue and Rehab, who shared her expertise on how we can all make our gardens safer for hedgehogs.

Inspired by her advice, here are some easy, practical ways to support hedgehogs that visit our gardens. One of the most valuable things we can do is create connected, wildlife-friendly spaces.

Hedgehogs roam up to a mile each night looking for food, so enabling them to move freely between gardens makes a huge difference. A small hole in a fence or wall of around 13cm by 13cm (the size of a CD) is ideal for a ‘hedgehog highway’. Chat to your neighbours to see if you can link up several gardens to form a safe route. Hedgehogs are good climbers, so if you have a stone wall creating a ‘staircase’ with rocks or logs both sides can help them access your garden.

Our next Wild Bunch gathering will be at the town hall on Thursday 18th December from 1.30pm to 3pm. This will be a relaxed festive meet-up over a mince pie, with an opportunity to plant a small pot of native Tenby daffodils to take home as a Christmas gift to nature at your doorstep. • Rotary clubs help fund new goalposts

Three new goalposts have been installed at Frome Town United Football Club, thanks to support from two Rotary clubs in Frome.

The new goalposts have been jointly funded by the Football Foundation, along with donations from the Rotary Club of Frome and Frome Town Rotary Clubs, to support access to football for the club’s youngest players, aged 12 and under, across 19 teams, including three girls-only teams.

Frome Town United Chairperson Shaun White said, “We’re hugely grateful to the Frome Rotary Clubs for their generosity. These new goals will directly benefit hundreds of children, especially our younger age groups, and help us continue to grow inclusive football for boys and girls across the town.”

The show will run at Frome Memorial Theatre from 28th December to 3rd January, this includes a relaxed performance on 31st December.
