DOMESTICARE is celebrating 40 years of trading from its shop in Keyford, Frome.
The family-owned domestic appliance sales and repair business was founded by Mick and Sue Wye in August 1984 and they were joined by their eldest son, David, a year later and have been trading from their shop in Keyford, Frome ever since.
In 1993, David’s wife, Wendy Wye, joined the business initially carrying out bookwork to then later running the shop when Sue Wye retired seven years ago. Sadly, in July 2020 Mick Wye lost his battle with cancer after enjoying only nine years of retirement.
As well as the long-serving family members, another staff member, Philip Carter has been working at Domesticare for 36 years, since he was 16 years old. David’s son-in-law, Michael Cornelius, joined the company in 2010 then handing the baton over to Luke Davies in June 2017 who remains part of the team.
Luke and Philip carry out all the small appliance repairs in the workshop along with the in-home deliveries and installations whilst David carries out the in-home repairs.
The shop sells built-in and freestanding domestic appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, dishwashers and refrigeration which all can be supplied as delivery-only or installed with the old appliance and all packaging removed (charges applies). They also stock and can order in a wide range of spares for most appliances.
David said, “The industry has changed a great deal over the last 40 years with increased number of manufacturers designing and producing appliances that require specialist software for electronic repairs or replacements etc.
“There are still a lot of types of repairs that we are able to carry out at a cost-effective price compared with the cost of a replacement appliance. We are always happy to give free advice on repairs and purchases.”
In September, David (alongside good friend Elaine Keene) will be taking on the ‘Mighty Hike’ raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. “All donations, no matter how big or small are welcome; please see our Facebook page for details,” said David.
