Edventure Frome will open its doors this September for a course for anyone who wants to bring about positive change with impactful communications.
‘Comms for Change’ is a practical, hands-on course designed to equip people with sought-after communication skills and experience. The course is free to join, thanks to Green and Healthy Frome’s National Lottery Funding.
Enrolment is open now and the course will start on Friday, 12th September and will run every Friday from 9.15am to 2.45pm at the Edventure Hub, Park Hill Drive, Frome, BA11 2LE.
Participants will benefit from workshops delivered by experienced industry professionals. They can expect to learn core communication skills, strategy, audience segmentation and planning across communications channels. They will have opportunities to experience work in the ever-changing communications industry, with a focus on driving positive social change.
Participants will then apply and refine these skills by working on a real-world project. The team’s brief is to create new materials for Frome’s Community Fridge. By doing so, participants will build confidence, skills and experience to take with them into future employment or other work.
Terri Pitts Manager of the Community Fridge, said, “The fridge is for everyone to use. But not everyone knows they can donate their own surplus food or that our fridges offer a wide range of foods, including healthy options and fresh fruit and vegetables. Help us make sure that everyone in town knows the Fridge has something for them.”
James Wallis from Edventure, said, “We know that the climate emergency matters to most people but knowing how to take action at a local level can be challenging. On the course, you’ll discover how our individual and collective wellbeing is interlinked with the health of our planet and find out what we can do to support both.
“We believe in learning by doing, no textbooks or lectures. You will leave with experience, a supportive community, and feeling like you’ve developed your voice.”
Tony, a participant from the previous Comms for Change course cohort, said, “I signed up because I was looking for an interesting new challenge. It was educational, inspiring and great fun. It has given me solid comms skills I can use in my work, made me more aware of local sustainability and environmental issues and has strengthened my connection with the Frome community. I’d recommend it to anyone!”
James added, “Course participants will join a team of people from all backgrounds and experience levels. Whether you are looking to try something new, participate more in your local community, shift careers, or upskill your organisation or community group, there’s a place for you on this course.”
