Green and Healthy Frome is inspiring a new generation of climate champions to do things their way, via an empowering youth-led programme called the Frome Youth Climate Action Group.
This creative initiative combines art, nature conservation, wildlife, campaigning and hands-on action, all developed and driven by the young people themselves, creating meaningful climate solutions in their own voice.
At the group’s first gathering, after getting to know each other, participants shared their climate concerns and passions.
Group facilitators Chris Redmond and Becky Lovegrove were impressed by the depth of environmental knowledge and enthusiasm in the room. Popular themes emerged, including rewilding projects, community clean-ups and planting, as well as education and awareness campaigns – from cultivating mini-forests and launching garden rewilding initiatives to creating public art sculptures from collected waste.
In their second meeting, Chris supported the group to prioritise their ideas. Watch this space to see their inspiring ideas come to life.
There is still time to join the group. If you are aged between 12 and 18 years old, passionate about the environment, want to do something about climate change and are keen to make a real difference, don’t miss out on the next activity, which is a reptile survey and autumn activity planning on Wednesday 27th August from 2pm to 5pm.
The event will run at Heal Rewilding, guided by Julia Galbenu, Community Engagement Manager. Julia will guide the group through the wilderness, helping to nurture a conversation that entwines wildlife conservation, science and discovery.
