Students from Frome College are celebrating ‘outstanding’ achievements in their GCSEs, A-levels and other qualifications, with the college reporting ‘excellent’ exam results across the board this year.
On Thursday 14th August, A-level and post-16 students collected their results. 139 Frome College students sat 399 exams across 38 subjects. Despite a national trend of lower outcomes, the college has reported that students achieved ‘remarkable’ results.
Principal Emma Reynolds said, “Congratulations to everyone who received their exam results. These achievements reflect the incredible hard work, resilience and determination shown by our students, supported by the unwavering commitment of our staff and families.”
A-Level and post-16 highlights include 25% of all grades awarded as A or A* and over 50% of the grades were grade B or higher.
In mathematics, 55% of students achieved an A or A*; in further maths, 67% achieved grade B or above. In chemistry, 63% were awarded a grade B or above; 65% were awarded a grade B or above in physics and in English literature, 65% were awarded a grade B or above.
In sport, 100% of students achieved a distinction or distinction* in double sport and 89% achieved a double merit or higher.
The college has reported ‘consistently excellent outcomes’ in applied business, with all students achieving merit or above and 60% gaining a distinction or higher.
100% of students met or exceeded targets in drama, health and social care, Spanish and sport; 50% of criminology students achieved at least one grade above their target.
GCSE
The following week on Thursday 21st August, Year 11 students collected their GCSE and BTEC results, where 287 Frome College students sat examinations across 30 subjects, achieving ‘fantastic’ outcomes.
Highlights include over 30% of students learning French and Spanish gained the highest grades, while 55% of students learning German achieved level 7 or above.
More than 50% of candidates in physics, chemistry and biology achieved level 7 or higher.
40% of students gained level 7 or above in media, dance, drama, photography and music; 95% of students in textiles met or exceeded their target grades; 76% of students achieved level 5 or above in religion and philosophy.
SEND
Students with special education needs (SEND) made ‘outstanding’ progress in their A-level and post-16 qualifications and over 50% in GCSEs surpassed their target grades.
Boys and girls
The college has also reported that this year’s results show a ‘far less’ gender gap than seen nationally, with boys and girls performing at similar levels overall. Some subject-specific differences remain, with girls excelling in English and boys achieving higher results in maths.
