Frome Medical Practice will be hosting a performance of the five star show Adventures in Menstruating! as part of a series of events championing women’s health in October.
The performance, which takes place at the practice, is free and open to anyone living in and around the Frome area.
Adventures in Menstruating! is performed by Chella Quint OBE and is an interactive science communication and educational comedy show, exploring menstruation. The show has had successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe and a number of science festivals. It has been described as “a brave and ambitious venture into the taboo that is menstruation”.
Neha Bhagi, a GP Partner at Frome Medical Practice, said, “We are really excited that Chella is bringing her show to Frome. In our recent conversations with women across the town we’ve talked about breaking the taboos around periods and this performance is aimed at doing exactly that. It’s important that everyone understands menstruation and people of all genders are welcome to attend this event, which will help you feel more informed and confident about this topic.
“The performance also links to our work on Plastic Free. Periods, which is part of the Green and Healthy Frome project. We’ll be handing out plastic free period packs on the night to young people aged 12 to 14 who have not already received a pack, as we try to support people to switch to reusable period products.”
Chella Quint OBE is an author, teacher, performer and activist. She is the UK’s leading expert on menstruation literacy and is the founder of the Period Positive movement, which uses humour and joy to challenge menstrual taboos, encourage better menstrual literacy, and find long term solutions to period poverty.
The show takes place on Wednesday 15th October, with doors opening and activities taking place from 6pm and the performance starting at 6:30pm. There will be an opportunity for book signing when the performance finishes. Tickets to the performance are free but people are asked to book as places are limited.
