Children at a primary school in Frome dressed in purple recently to raise money for a cancer counselling charity at risk of closure.
Pupils at St John’s First School took part in a special non-school uniform day with the theme of ‘A Splash of Purple’ and raised £239 for We Hear You (WHY). WHY launched an urgent appeal to raise £55,000 by the end of March, or face risk of closure.
Headteacher Nicole Simenton said, “It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces while raising a lovely amount of money to help WHY continue their important work supporting families in our community.
“The theme was a variation of ‘A Splash of Purple’, which WHY has organised across Frome in previous years; staff and children called it their own ‘Mini Splash of Purple.’ It brought out lots of creativity, with children proudly wearing everything from lavender leggings to bright violet hats and even a touch of sparkly face paint.”
The fun didn’t stop there, as on the same day, families were welcomed into the school hall for the annual art event ‘The Big Draw’. Together, children and their families helped create a giant ‘under the seascape’ masterpiece, filling it with colourful fish, shimmering sea creatures, and swirling seaweed and waves.
Nicole said, “Staff at St John’s want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to join in this special event; the finished whole-school artwork looks absolutely amazing.”
