THE RSPCA is appealing for anyone with any information about who owned a dog that recently suffered severe injuries in Frome, to get in contact.
According to social media posts by Frome-based animal rescue centre, Cornpop Critter Rescue, the one-year-old dog Bella (previously called Zena), was abandoned for three days and was “left to die” hiding under a trailer in a garden in Queen’s Road after she was found with injuries including a severe prolapse that has required surgery.
The rescue centre says that the vets have confirmed that Bella suffered sexual abuse by a human. Bella has since come out of surgery and is being cared for by the rescue centre.
There was an outpouring of support for Bella on social media following the posts by the rescue centre, with many people offering to provide her with a home once she has recovered and finished her rehabilitation.
Many people also thanked Cornpop Critter Rescue for their role in saving Bella and for the care provided by local vets.
A spokesperson for the RSPCA said, “We’re pleased to hear Bella is doing well at a local rescue centre. We’re appealing to anyone with information on who owned Bella and what happened to her before she came into the care of this rescue, to contact us on 0300 123 0818 quoting incident number: 01224116.”
Cornpop Critter Rescue also stated on their Facebook page that several fake online fundraising pages have been set up that are not associated with the rescue centre, and they are warning people not to donate to them.
