An annual fete which has raised funds for charity for more than 50 years has been cancelled for a second consecutive year.
The Frome Lions Club’s free family fun day was due to take place in June at Victoria Park. However, organisers said they have had to cancel the event again because key events and stallholders have dropped out.
Lion Mike Geake said, “We do not consider it viable to hold the event this year and have not taken this decision lightly.”
The long-running fete was also cancelled last year, following a request from Frome Town Council that participants do not leave vehicles in the park during events.
The Lions said this requirement ‘severely impacted’ the number of stallholders and made the event unviable.
This year’s event had been due to return to Victoria Park on 27th June following constructive discussions with the town council.
Mike said, “We have not given up on running a future fete. It was created to thank the people of Frome for their support shown to the Lions during the year by offering an afternoon of fun for children and adults alike. We also gave numerous charities and organisations in the town the opportunity to promote their profile and raise much-needed funds.”
