Frome will honour the service and sacrifice of the armed forces and pay tribute to families and communities affected by war at the annual service of Remembrance on Sunday 8th November.
The parade and service will begin at 10.45am in the Memorial Garden at the Memorial Theatre, where people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to come together in reflection.
At 11am, silence will be heralded by the sounding of the Last Post by cadets from the Frome Army Cadet Force. For two minutes, people will reflect, whether on history, current conflicts or personal memories.
Music from Frome Town Band, will accompany the service, before wreaths are laid by representatives of the community. The laying of wreaths will be led by the chair of the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion and Mayor of Frome, Cllr Mark Dorrington.
Veterans will then lay wreaths alongside community organisations, local groups and residents. For many veterans, Remembrance Sunday offers a rare opportunity to come together, remember former colleagues and reflect on shared experiences. There will also be a quiet moment during the service when members of the public are invited to come forward and pay their respects.
Mayor Mark Dorrington said, “Remembrance Sunday is a chance for us to come together as a community and honour those who served and recognise the sacrifices made by families and loved ones. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pause together in remembrance.”
Jane Norris of the Frome Branch Royal British Legion said, “This year, many people will be remembering the service personnel and families connected to Operation Telic, as we mark 15 years since the final departure of British forces from Iraq. We remember those who lost their lives, those who returned with life-changing injuries, and the families and friends whose lives were changed forever.”
Remembrance Sunday in Frome is organised by the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion and supported by Frome Town Council. All are welcome to attend and take part in this collective act of remembrance.
