Important CPR training at Oakfield Academy

All Year 7 and 8 pupils at Oakfield Academy, Frome, will be undertaking CPR training during the autumn term.

Friends of Frome Hospital, together with Creative Aquatics, will be delivering the training, giving each child the opportunity to have a hands-on experience of mouth-to-mouth and CPR compressions.

  • Young people bring colour to town centre with new mural A colourful new mural has been created in Frome town centre following a recent graffiti and street art workshop. Led by muralist Tom Sturgess, the workshop is part of a Frome Town Council year-long community art programme, delivered in partnership with The School of Graff. Through workshops, courses and mural projects, the programme will bring new public artworks to the town while providing creative opportunities for young people. Read more on our website.   • Winter fair to support local causes A community fair is returning to the Cheese and Grain in November, with the venue teaming up with Fair Frome to support local causes. The ‘Winter Community Fair’ will be held on Saturday 7th November from 10am to 3pm. It will include a range of stalls run by local charities and community groups offering Christmas gifts, plants, tombolas, fundraising and giving out useful information. Read more on our website.   • Volunteer call-out for this year’s Poppy Appeal Volunteers are needed to support this year’s Poppy Appeal, which starts at the end of October. The local Poppy Appeal is run by the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) and last year raised £48,000. The charity is calling on volunteers to help at their local supermarket stands, where they will be collecting donations from the last week in October to Saturday 7th November.   • Frome charity offers half marathon places A Frome family support organisation is calling for participants to join its fundraising team for next year’s Bath Half Marathon. Purple Elephant has 10 paid-for charity places available for those willing to raise sponsorship for the event on Sunday 14th March 2027.   • Skateboard artworks raise £10,000 for new facility An exhibition of original skateboard artworks has raised £10,000 towards Frome’s new skatepark. More than 200 people attended The Great Dexhibition, at The Gallery at Station Approach, which saw more than 40 original skateboard artworks by local and national artists on display. It was organised by Frome Skatepark Project, a volunteer group working alongside Frome Town Council to raise the £400,000 needed to build a new skatepark in the Mary Baily Playing Field.   • Residents invited to shape local priorities The community are encouraged to get involved in conversations about the issues that matter most across Frome and the surrounding villages. The Frome and Villages Local Community Network (LCN) brings together local councils, community organisations, public services and residents to share ideas, discuss challenges and explore solutions that can benefit communities across the area. The network has recently appointed a new leadership team, with Frome Town Cllr Steve Tanner and Somerset Councillor Cllr Dawn Denton and serving as co-chairs, supported by Somerset Cllr Adam Boyden and Somerset Council
