Brilliant bicycling with Frome’s Missing Links

Frome’s Missing Links pulled out all the stops to make the July Frome Independent a cycling extravaganza! Despite the scorching weather, 20 volunteers generously gave their time to make the event a success.
Visitors to the market on Sunday 1st July could choose from a huge range of activities including blending their own smoothie on the Smoothie bike, creating a work of art using the pedal powered paint spinner or dressing up and posing as a Tour de France cyclist.
Market-goers could browse through the bike jumble sale with a staggering 32 bikes and many more parts and accessories, which were donated to the jumble in advance of the market, plus more items were donated on the day.
Frome Museum brought along their Penny Farthing and Cycles Maximus shared a selection of their customisable bikes which demonstrate sustainable alternatives to the internal combustion engine. A Dr Bike was also part of the team offering bike maintenance demonstrations and advice. SAM scaffolding provided additional bike parking and visitors were encouraged to cycle to market.
The cycling activities were organised by local charity, Frome’s Missing Links, who campaign for better and safer walking and cycling routes in Frome and better connections to neighbouring towns and villages. Getting out walking or cycling burns calories, gets your heart pumping and lifts your mood. Many studies conclude that increasing levels of physical activity puts a smile on your face and improves your general health and wellbeing.
Frome’s Missing Links are raising funds to secure the next section of the Colliers Way and activities at the Frome Independent raised nearly £1,200 for this cause. For details and to donate go to https://fromes missinglinks.org.uk/donate/
