The chair of trustees for a Frome cancer charity is stepping down after 12 years in the role.
Anne Montague has chaired We Hear You (WHY) since 2014, helping to guide the charity through a period of significant growth and change.
Chief Executive Officer Lucy Kitchener said, “Anne has remained steadfastly focused on We Hear You’s mission to provide counselling and emotional support to children, adults and families affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions.
“A counsellor and psychotherapist with more than 25 years’ experience supporting people affected by life-limiting illness, bereavement and end-of-life care, Anne brought a unique blend of professional expertise, compassion and strategic leadership to the organisation.”
Before becoming chair, Anne worked for the charity as a counsellor, clinical manager and bid writer for Positive Action on Cancer (PAC), the predecessor organisation that became We Hear You.
During her time as chair, she has supported fundraising challenges, including a 30 km for 30 years walk, spoken at events and attended community activities.
Lucy said, “Throughout her time as chair, Anne has been a passionate champion for ensuring psychological support is recognised as an essential part of holistic cancer care. Her unwavering belief in the importance of emotional wellbeing has helped shape and strengthen We Hear You’s services and influence.
“On behalf of everyone at We Hear You, I would like to thank Anne for her remarkable contribution. We are enormously grateful for the time, expertise and energy she has given to the charity, and we wish her every happiness for the future.”
Reflecting on the charity’s work, Anne previously said, “After many years spent working with people affected by cancer, I have seen firsthand the profound impact of We Hear You’s support on people’s emotional health, their ability to cope with their illness and to move forward with their lives. I believe passionately in the value of We Hear You’s work.”
