LOCAL police sergeant, Rachel Clark, has been given a Police Crime Commissioner’s Pride award for her charitable work in the community.
Rachel and her brothers, Matthew and Daniel, have raised over £26,000 for local charity We Hear You (WHY) in memory of their mother, Shirley Wiggins, who died in 2011 from leukaemia.
Recently the trio led Frome to victory at an event that raised over £7,000, breaking the Guinness World Record for the most amount of people to row 500m each, in a 24-hour relay on one indoor rowing machine.
Previous challenges include climbing a 30ft fire ladder for 8 hours last year, and dragging a 10-tonne fire engine around Frome the year before.
Rachel was nominated for the award by fundraising and communications manager at WHY, Gemma Wilkes.
“I was really surprised and honoured to have been nominated for a pride award,” said Rachel. “My brothers and I have always felt so well supported over the years with our various challenges. I’m touched that Gemma (from WHY) took the time to nominate me because she works just as hard as I do getting these events off the ground!
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, the physical side of our challenges has been demanding, but so too has the administration and event planning and I couldn’t have done it without a raft of volunteers and family and friends behind me.
“Raising over £26,000 since mum passed away is incredible but that’s all thanks to the people that donate, so thank you all.”

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
