Frome writers and performers, Poetry in Motion, have linked with farmer, musician and writer Ed Green, to organise a farm walk around Chesterblade on Sunday 18th November, between 2-5pm.
The Frome-based Poetry and Motion group say, “This will celebrate the publication this autumn of Ed Green’s magnificent memoir of his great-uncle Allen – ‘It Leaves Me The Same’. The memory of this great-uncle and his service in the First World War has always been held in the family. The discovery of a cache of letters from training camps and from the war in France, enabled Ed to research and write an account of Allen’s war service.
“We organise not-too-strenuous walks to local venues, with poetry readings along the way. For the Frome Festival in 2017, we walked ‘In the Footsteps of Edward Thomas’, along the valley of the River Frome, celebrating the great poet’s connections with this part of the country, especially Tellisford. We followed this up with ‘In the footsteps of Siegfried Sassoon’ at the 2018 Festival, on a blazing hot and very memorable afternoon in Mells.
“On the walk, Ed Green will read from his book and from his great-uncle’s letters. Crysse Morrison and Martin Bax will put this into context with readings from such well-known First World War poets such as Sara Teasdale and Wilfred Owen. There will also be a visit to Chesterblade Chapel, where there is a memorial to Allen Green. The walk finishes at dusk, with tea in the farmhouse kitchen.
