Frome Park men’s cup run has come to an end at the semi-final stage, their opponents Clevedon proving to be that little too strong and experienced, taking the win by 96 – 57 and now progress to play Taunton in the final.
The Frome rink of Kim Pitts, Dave Whitehead, Nigel Hunt & Wayne Pitts had a great tussle and certainly made their opponents work hard for their win. After 18 ends they were leading by 1 shot but dropped shots on the last 3 ends to lose by a score of 26-20. All the Frome bowlers enjoyed the day and even in defeat went home feeling the experience will only make them stronger in the long term.
The day before their semi-final clash the Frome Park bowlers had the perfect preparation by winning a friendly match in great style away from home at Knowle, winning on all 4 rinks and by an overall score of 92-53. Frome’s highest winning rink was Cliff White, Alan Cottle, Dave Whitehead & Steve West who dominated the second half of their game finishing on a score of 30-18 after being level at 8 shots each at 10 ends.
In the County League, the “A” team shrugged off their cup defeat by returning to form with a solid win away against Purnells “B”, managing to get 2 winning rinks and the overall score of 60-54 to picked up 10 points. Frome’s best rink was John Curtis, Richard Phillips, Les Stather & Steve West who after a shaky start where they found themselves 4 shots adrift after 6 ends slowly took control and eventually ran out victors by 20-13.
The Park Ladies have had a busy time in the Wild league with some differing results. Their match against Paulton being cut short at 15 ends due to some heavy rainfall; unfortunately the score at that time was 48-36 in favour of Paulton. Frome did have one winning triple, Viv Lake, Gayle Brown & Jane Mcleod by a score of 17-12.
What a difference a couple of days made for Frome Park Ladies, their match against local rivals Frome Selwood was played on a sunny afternoon and a good win was had by 54-42. On this occasion the triple of Jane Mcleod, Joan Curtis & Val Church had the best win with their game finishing 24-13. This was followed by a disappointing performance against a strong Wells team, going down by an overall score of 51-32. The park did however have one winning triple, with Janet Pitts, Liz Wells & Myra Drew claiming their points with a 19-12 score.
The mixed team played a friendly match against Broughton Gifford. Always a tough fixture, this was again the case and a good contest finally went in favour of Broughton Gifford by 61-51. The Park did have a winning rink, Val Smith, Steve Forrester, Val Church & Richard Phillips coming out on top by 17-12.
