Donate to an African orphan this Christmas

SMALL is Beautiful Africa is appealing for people to donate shoeboxes of Christmas presents to be sent to children in an African orphanage.

The charity, which is run by Frome local Stewart Grant, alongside his brother Kevin Grant and family friend Andrew Smith, is hoping to support 18 children at a small orphanage called Kankobe Children’s Home, which lies close to the equator in Uganda.

After signing up to the appeal, supporters are given the details of one of the children at the orphanage.

Speaking to Frome Times, Stewart said, “We are hoping that families with their own children will want to take part in this appeal – as well as donating a few presents, we are encouraging people to also pop a letter and a photo of themselves into the box.

“Our shoebox appeal was very successful last year and we hope to repeat that. Christmas can be a very lonely time for orphans and a shoebox full of little treats goes a little way to brightening up their day.

“We are asking people to donate £17 (to cover the cost of shipping to Uganda) and to send a shoebox to us, which we will then forward. We are limiting donations to one child per household. All shoeboxes must reach us no later than Wednesday 4th December.

“For anyone donating in the Frome area, I will come and pick up the shoebox.”
