Frome’s own variety night returns to the Merlin

A popular variety night is back from September with a brand-new line-up of music, comedy and circus acts to entertain audiences.

Pick & Mix, run by New Old Friends Theatre Company, will be running again on Saturday 19th September at the Merlin Theatre.

The night will be headlined by session musician Leigh Coleman, a singer and guitarist who mixes genres including soul, pop and funk. There will also be a performance by a new up-and-coming stand-up fresh from his first-ever Edinburgh performance, Oliver Young.

A new segment will feature ‘Frome’s Funniest Folk’ where local people will perform some stand-up sets.

Organisers say, “If you’ve not been to one of the popular Pick & Mix nights before, they are joyful celebrations of pure entertainment. It’s sort of like a miniature festival of fun all in one evening with multiple acts from different areas of performance all for the price of a fancy burger.

“On the bill this time are Oliver Young, who, earlier this year, was the runner up at the Bath Comedy Festival New Act competition, which was the launching point for Rob Beckett’s comedy career.

“The Lilac Looney Cirque Show, which is two brilliant cirque performers fresh from a massive tour, who promise to make you gasp in wonder and laugh with abandon with their acrobatics, hula, juggling and clowning.

“Headlining the evening is Leigh Coleman, an incredible guitarist and singer who mixes soul, pop, funk and all genres in between with total joy. Leigh is hugely in demand as a session musician and event entertainment, so this is a rare opportunity to see a master playing a set list of his own choosing in the intimate environment of the Merlin.”
