Dance News

Miss Bell completed the Spring term using on line technology. We loved seeing the photos of the students practicing hard at home. Miss Bell and her team have been busy planning the new on line term; an e mail will follow shortly.

The Easter production of ‘Dancing Through the Ages‘ at the Merlin has of course been postponed. The Merlin will issue any refunds when the staff return to work.
The West End workshop will be rescheduled. More info to follow as and when it is available.
We have been amazed by the positive community spirit, and look forward to our continued dancing together.

Theatre News

We are still hoping to be able to run our summer schools, although auditions for the senior school will now be at a later date, yet to be confirmed. Details, if we are able to continue, follows:

We have slightly changed the format of the junior school; so if you wish, your child can just take part in the morning skills sessions rather than the whole day where they will learn the dance routines for the Our House performances. I know many have not been able to commit to the performance week due to holidays or age of child. Registration forms will be amended. If you have already registered we will hold your deposit. If we do need to postpone we will issue a full refund.

Senior Summer School

Our House – The Madness Musical
3- 6 August & 17-22 August

This is the senior summer school for ages 12-21.

For more information e mail tri.arttheatreschool@gmail.come had a fantastic time with Footloose last year, and can’t wait to get started on this one! There are plenty of roles for male and female, plus a very busy ensemble!

Junior Summer School

Skills Week & Our House – The Madness Musical
3- 6 August & 17-22 August (if taking part in the performances)
This year’s junior summer school is very exciting as we combine a skills week with a guest appearance in the senior production of ‘Our House’ enabling the younger students to perform for three nights in this popular high energy musical.

Week one (Monday 3rd – Thursday 6th 10am – 2pm, or 10am-12.30pm for the skills week) will consist of morning classes in dance, acting and vocal techniques. After lunch we will rehearse the ‘Our House’ dance routines that will be performed with the older cast.

Timings are yet to be announced for the week of 17-22 August. The students will be needed during the evenings of 19-22 August with estimated finishing times of 9.30pm.

The workshop will cost £100 to be paid in two installments for the full course, or £45 for the skills week , there is a sibling discount of £75 / £30. For ages 7-12 years. Students do not need to audition.

  • Spotlight on: Frome Widows and Widowers

Every week, a group of people who have been bereaved meet in an upstairs room at the Cheese and Grain for social connection.

The Widows and Widowers group meets every Wednesday, enabling people who have lost their partners to meet others with shared experiences.

Group leader Marilyn said, “It can be really difficult for people who have lost their partners. It gives them a chance to come out and do things alone.”

Marilyn, who was widowed 16 years ago, said, “There are people in my group who lost their husbands 20 years ago.”

  • Local man to drive emergency aid to Ukraine

A local volunteer is driving to Ukraine in July to deliver an emergency vehicle and medical supplies to the war-torn country.

Martyn Starnes, chief executive of Frome Town Football Club, will travel to the western side of the country with volunteers from Medical Life Lines Ukraine, covering 1,200 miles over three and a half days.

“The situation in Ukraine is very dangerous and very volatile, particularly near the front line,” said Martyn, who also completed the journey in 2024.

“They’re in constant need of emergency vehicles to take not only the military but civilians to hospital and there is a never-ending demand for these vehicles.

“When we arrive, we hand them over to the locals to be positioned wherever they need to go throughout the country.

  • Frome Park Men maintain their good form

Frome Park Men A team beat Weston, Bath B at home in the County League, winning on two rinks, both by the same score of 26-10 to claim 10 points to the visitors picking up just 2 points. The A team are still unbeaten and remain in top spot in East 1.

The B team had a disappointing defeat away to Wells and left empty handed but are hoping to bounce back next time when they are at home against Purnells B.

In the midweek MSL, Frome Park men have had mixed fortunes. There was an excellent win at home against Shepton Mallet, picking up 11 points for two winning rinks; the overall score was 63-40.

A trip to Wells ended with two winning rinks but missing out on the overall win by five shots, going down to an 8 - 4 defeat.

  • Frome Birth Talk chosen for funding boost

A Frome charity has been selected for a match-funding opportunity to further its work in supporting people through pregnancy, birth, parenthood and baby loss.

As part of this year’s Small Charity Week from 22nd to 29th June, all donations made to Frome Birth Talk via the Big Give website up to £2,500 will be matched, meaning supporters can help the charity reach twice as many families.

Frome Birth Talk offers free and low-cost counselling to anyone who is pregnant, has had a baby or has experienced baby loss within the previous two years. Alongside counselling, the charity runs five weekly drop-in groups for parents and their babies and young children, creating safe, welcoming spaces for connection and support.

  • Health information events at Frome Medical Practice

Two health information events are being held at Frome Medical Practice this month, aimed at supporting patients on key health topics.

The first event, a Pelvic Health Talk, is offered as part of the Women’s Health Hub at the practice and takes place on Tuesday 23rd June from 6pm to 7pm.

Organisers say, “Many women experience symptoms of poor pelvic health in silence but it doesn’t have to be that way. Patients are invited to come to the talk to learn more about common pelvic health issues, as well as ways to improve symptoms and support wellbeing. The session will be led by a pelvic health physiotherapist and aims to empower women to take control of their health.”

  • Friends cycle to Rome in once-in-a-lifetime charity adventure

A 1,300-mile journey from Frome to Rome is under way after two friends turned a casual pub idea into a six-week cycling challenge across three countries.

Frome resident Anton Grais set off with friend Joel Rooprai on 17th May and the duo will cycle for six weeks across three countries, crossing rural landscapes, busy cities and challenging mountain routes in the Alps.

They are aiming to raise £1,500, which will be split between Mind, the British Heart Foundation and the Royal British Legion.

The idea came following a ‘tipsy’ trip to the pub last year. They left their jobs – Anton worked in property and Joel in aerospace defence – to undertake the adventure.
