For many people, the daily walk during the lockdown period has been something that both individuals and families have looked forward to. Taking a stroll for an hour became our daily treat.
Some people have discovered the beauty spots around Frome for the very first time, others have taken the opportunity to visit their favourite spots many times, appreciating how they change on a daily basis.
A simple walk along the river bank through Whatcombe Fields to Spring Gardens, a walk through the Dippy or a stroll around the Old Show Ground or Victoria Park became the highlight of the day.
As lockdown eased and people were allowed out for longer they became more adventurous and walked further. A morning walk to Rodden Church, up to Chapmanslade and back through Berkley Woods to see the bluebells, a walk through Spring Gardens up to Orchardleigh and a view of the Lake, or taking the dog through Vallis Vale to Great Elm.
Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “As our lives return back to normal we have an opportunity to change our old habits and take up these new ones more frequently. If you have enjoyed walking during lockdown then why not continue and make it part of your daily or weekly routine. The benefits to your physical and mental health are well documented.
