Frome Rotary clubs and community provide food service

Over the past seven weeks, 420 meals have been delivered to the students at Frome College. 

The college report, “Ebbie’s Kitchen prepared all of the food but only charged actual costs and Wainwright Quarries paid for it, which was all very generous. 

“Everyone involved did a great job and it was really appreciated by the students. Two thank you cards have been received, signed by many of the students who benefited.

“Martin Carter, youth lead for district D1200, and Malcolm Westgate, youth lead for Frome Selwood Rotary, completed the final food run to the college on Wednesday 15th July. Ebbie really pulled out the stops providing the following food for 30 hungry students – pulled pork roll & slaw, sweet potato chips, sweet corn & salad, veggie burgers, chocolate brownies and doughnuts.” 

Malcom said, “I must also thank all of the Rotarians who helped to deliver the food on time and piping hot. It was the effort of three Frome clubs and Midsomer Norton and Radstock Rotary which worked really well – thank you!”

Frome College principal, Emma Reynolds said, “Thank you so much for your generosity and for helping our students during lock down.  A great idea, brilliantly executed, supportive of education and extremely tasty. One of our English teachers, Sophia Wells, has penned this message which, I think, captures the effects of your work exactly.”

Sophia said, “Thank you so much for funding the meals for our students.  As a teacher who has been supervising them for some of the time since lockdown, I have really noticed the positive benefits of their meals. 

“Of course, they have provided them with a nutritious meal, but for me what I particularly noticed were the positive outcomes of students sitting down to a social meal together, which was the stimulus for shared discussion and giving us a sense of community. Lunchtime on these days was without a doubt the most positive social experience of the day for our students.  Thanks again”
