TWO local radio presenters have claimed a new world record – visiting all 20 Premier League stadiums in less than 24 hours.
Presenters, James Harrison and James Hounsell – who present the sports show ‘State of Play’ on FromeFM, completed the challenge in 21 hours and 6 minutes, beating the previous record held by Olly May by 14 minutes.
The duo filmed the challenge for their YouTube channel, and in its first week of being online, the video received over 11,500 views.
The pair travelled around the country by car, and at each stadium, they placed a TTM Sports (the name of their media company) sticker, as well as documenting their visit with a photo posted to Instagram – ‘timestamping’ their challenge.
James Harrison said, “Each month we plan to do something a bit different and special, we saw on YouTube that only a handful of people had completed the challenge, so we took the record on. The experience was amazing!
“To see the stadiums we all see on television up close and personal – even if it was for only two minutes each!”
About narrowly beating the previous record by 14 minutes, James said, “We got to the penultimate stadium and it was an hour to the last one – but it turned out to be an hour and 15 minutes, so it was quite close at the end. The video on YouTube is quite compelling – it makes good viewing!”
The pair’s radio show ‘State of Play’, airs three times a month on FromeFM and has been running for five months.
About the show, James said, “We are a local Frome-based sports podcast, where we interview people from within the sporting world in their careers. For instance we have interviewed FIFA/Premier League footballer Mark Halsey, British boxing champion Denzel Bentley, and world famous commentator Peter Drury.
“And the message of the show, and Think Twice Media (TTM), is that if you have a passion and an interest in sport and you’re committed and willing to learn, you don’t need to have a degree in sports journalism to go out and achieve great things.”
The pair’s next challenge, when travel restrictions allow, is a trip to Holland to break the record for visiting all top flight football stadiums.
