THE Farmers Market at the Cheese & Grain has been one of the largest in the Southwest for over 21 years and has supported many small farms and artisan food producers as they establish themselves locally and build up a customer base in the town.
“However, Covid-19 and the loss of our venue for 18 months caused us to ‘contract’ and move around temporary venues including the Cheese & Grain Terrace and Boyle Cross,” said Louise Hall.
“Back in August we relaunched back indoors immediately doubled in size and with the added benefit of a state-of-the-art ventilation system sponsored by Frome Town Council to minimise any Covid-19 risks.
“Yet numbers visiting the market since our return indoors is still greatly reduced from pre-Covid times which has been disappointing as the farmers need more support than ever.
“It’s a great all-weather accessible market venue – our last indoor market across the county – and we want to give it as much of a chance as possible to work indoors.
“So, if you’d like to support local free range poultry farmers, organic beef producers, cheesemakers and mushroom growers, cider makers, market gardeners, bakers and beekeepers please come along and show your support on the second Saturday of the month.
“We are a not-for-profit organisation so keep stall fees low so that the farmers can keep the money from their produce to ensure their financial sustainability.
“Find out more about us at www.somersetfarmersmarkets.co.uk and sign up for a Frome Cheese & Grain farmers market e- leaflet so you can see who will be coming along each month.”
