FROME succumbed to a heavy defeat against promotion rivals AFC Totton at the Snows Stadium.
A wonderful display from Totton forward Hisham Kasimu saw him score in both halfs before setting up the third and final goal of the game.
Despite seeing an early James Ollis effort curl across the face of goal, the Robins were on the back foot early on and had to withstand some serious pressure from the home side.
James Carey was able to deny Kasimu when he got in behind the Frome defence for the first time after 10 minutes, but he was unable to deny the Stags’ top-scorer when he broke clear in the 18th minute.
The Robins did gain some control of the game after falling behind, putting together several good passing sequences, yet it was a mistake from the Totton defence that nearly helped them draw level.
Ollis reacted quickly to a misplaced defensive header, and was only kept out by a full-stretch save from Amadeusz Skrzyniarz before the resulting corner was headed just over the bar by Marcus Mapstone.
With half-time approaching it was the Robins who had the better of the game, although the home side remained threatening thanks to Kasimu’s ability to lead one-man counter-attacks thanks to his lightning-quick pace.
A scrappy start to the second period afforded Totton even more opportunities to break, and Kasimu was able to double their lead just after the hour mark when he latched on to a pass from Sam Griffin and fired home.
Frome were unable to cut errors in possession out of their game as the half progressed, losing the ball in their own half in the 70th minute and allowing Kasimu to pick out Ethan Taylor to curl home from the edge of the box.
