Rugby: Counties 1 Tribute Southern South
Walcot 10 – 53 Frome
Frome travelled to Bath to meet old rivals Walcot who were sitting second in the league.
Frome started with attacking intent playing down the hill and from a scrum in the home side’s 22, looked to have scored when Sam Cassidy broke through but the ball was held up over the line.
Frome continued to attack and after a num-
ber of phases close to the line Dave Martin dived over under the posts for a try, converted by Max Stickley.
Walcot hit back immediately with a break down the line to score in the corner for an unconverted try.
Frome continued to press and Murray White broke through to touch down under the posts. Walcot continued to defend stoutly but Frome extended their lead when the home side infringed at the ruck and Max Stickley converted the penalty to give Frome a 17-5 lead at half time.
HT: Walcot 5 – 17 Frome
Walcot looked to use the slope to their advantage in the second-half but Frome extended their lead when Dave Martin crashed over for his second try.
The next 20 minutes were hard fought and Walcot put pressure on the Frome defence and they finally got on the scoreboard again when a crossfield kick was gathered by the winger to touch down in the corner. Frome increased their lead when from a five-metre scrum the pack pushed the opposition pack backwards and Alex Mallon dotted down for a converted try.
Despite having to reshuffle the backs due to injuries Frome were now in the ascendancy and dominated the last 20 minutes scoring four more tries through Sam Cassidy, Nick Powell, Josh Hills and Max Stickley who added a further three conversions.
Player of the Match was awarded to Dave Martin.
