Frome Diamonds 42 Chippenham 2 37
DIAMONDS began the New Year with a great win over Chippenham 2 to maintain their quest to stay in the Prem Division of the Moonraker League.
Starting solidly Diamonds, sponsored by Dennis Maps, passed the ball around and utilised all scoring opportunities that were available. Georgina Southwell excelled at Centre and made lots of telling passes into the shooting circle where they were converted into goals. The quarter time score was 10-all.
Keeping disciplined and playing good controlled netball meant Diamonds forged ahead in the second stanza. Great defending by Emily Pascoe and Rosie McMahon put the Chippenham shooters under pressure and Frome forged ahead to lead by 3 goals.
Changes were made at half time but this did not disrupt the team flow, and quick passing into the circle meant Lauren Wilkinson converted most of her shots into goals.
Southwell worked tirelessly in both attack and defence and was duly awarded the Player of the Match award.
Captain Georgina Guy put in a great shift, always making herself available for the reset and leading by example.
By the end of the third stanza Diamonds had built up an 8 goal lead, only to see it pegged back in the last stanza to 5. A brilliant result though for the team and the Players’ Player award went to Pascoe for all-round play and support to the team.
