FROME Bridge Club is this month launching sessions for people wanting to learn the popular card game.
The club reports, “Last October, Frome Bridge Club returned to Wesley Church on Thursday mornings to continue with their teaching sessions (9.30am until 12 noon). The response to this decision has been excellent, with good numbers attending and every appearance of enjoyment by those who come along.
“Up until now, we have been offering improver sessions for those who know the basics of bridge but want to progress, and we have also been offering sessions for those who have been playing for some time and want to learn some of the more subtle aspects of the game.
“Both groups have been making very good progress. Many of these people have also been playing online, both at the club’s regular events played on Bridge Base Online at 6.40pm on Monday evenings, and in friendly events on this and other sites.
“From 17th February, we are planning to add sessions for people who want to learn bridge – maybe from scratch. These will also be at Wesley Church at 9.30am on Thursday mornings, and will be taught by Elaine Rutland, who has experience of teaching beginners. These sessions have also been very popular in the past. You do not need a partner to come – come with a partner or come on your own.
“Wesley Church is fortunate in being spacious, with three separate teaching spaces, and a light and airy atmosphere. All necessary care is taken to minimise any risk. Parking is available.
“If you want to come to the beginners’ class, contact Elaine Rutland on 07809 163705, or if you just want a general chat about the club to find out whether it might be suitable for you, you could ring John Perry on 01373 467508, or Marianne Lewin on 07462 351244.”
