Issue 298 – Jenson’s coming home!

Frome Town Council has confirmed arrangements for Frome’s most famous son, Jenson “The Frome Flyer” Button’s visit to Frome on Tuesday 4th May.

 Jenson Button MBE, winner of the Formula One World Driver’s Championship in 2009, will be presented with the Freedom of the Town by the Mayor of Frome, cllr Damon Hooton.  The presentation ceremony will take place in front of the Cheese and Grain building in the Cattle Market car park at 1.00pm.
Everyone is welcome to come and see Jenson on stage in the centre of his home town.
Jenson said, “It’s a great feeling to be recognised by your home town and honoured in such a way. I still have a lot of friends in Frome and the surrounding area so am always getting updates about what’s going on and being passed messages of support which means a lot to me. With anything in life it’s very important to remember where you’re from.
“I’ve been lucky enough to embark on a career in an international sport which has allowed me to visit some incredible places around the world but I’m a Frome boy through and through and that will never change and will always be something I am very proud of.”
 Whilst on stage Jenson has agreed to answer a few questions from members of the public.  Although he can’t promise to respond to all of them,  if you would like the chance of your question being read out to the crowd, please submit the question in writing to Frome Town Council, 5 Palmer Street, Frome, BA11 1DS or by email to admin@frome-tc.gov.uk by Wednesday 28th April.  Don’t forget to include your name!
Please note that there will be no parking in the Cattle Market car park on the day.  Alternative parking is available in the car parks at North Parade, Cork Street and Merchants Barton; however the town council is encouraging residents, where possible, to walk into town or use public transport.
