A Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal Event is to be held at the Cheese & Grain this month with all proceeds going to the Frome Town Council’s twin town Ukrainian refugee appeal.
The event in on Saturday 30th April and performing are The Back Wood Redeemers, Mighty One, Back Of The Bus, The Raggedy Men, Henry Wacey, and DJ Patmandu. The venue gives very special thanks to Stage2Sound for supporting the event.
Prior to that on Friday 29th April is Hei Ukrayina – a Big Sing For Ukraine. Jackdaws Songbirds (Frome), Sounding it Out (Trowbridge), and Shreen Harmony (Mere) unite for an evening of acapella singing and solidarity with Ukraine. Expect rousing and joyful informal performances from 100+ singers led by local choir leader Caroline Radcliffe, including songs from around the world, through the ages, and a special Ukrainian song. The Wurzels have paved the way for Scrumpy n’ Western – a genre packed full of double entendre, mainstream parody and a comical folk style. The perfect accompaniment to cider drinking.
Performing a career-spanning set consisting of all the hits, stories and jokes from a career lasting more than 50 years, The Wurzels continue to play over 100 sell-out shows and festivals every year. Their quintessentially West Country cover of Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Ruby’ has been a massive show favourite of late, as well as their hip hop version of the ubiquitous hit ‘Combine Harvester’.
The Wurzels are regularly asked how long they will keep going. The band always respond that they intend to keep going whilst they enjoy performing – and that suits the rest of us just fine!

Eliza Carthy is one of the most engaging performers of her generation. Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of innumerable other accolades over a 30 year career, Eliza has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists including Paul Weller, Richard Hawley, John Smith and Van Dyke Parks, Patrick Wolf and Peggy Seeger.
More than most, Eliza Carthy has revitalised folk music with intelligent, charismatic and boundary-crossing performances and was recently honoured with an MBE for her services to folk music. Joining Eliza from her Wayward Band is guitarist David Delarre and melodian player Saul Rose.

Westcountry folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman released a stunning new studio album Make Your Mark in November 2021. Written during his enforced 18 months off the road, the album features 14 powerful, brand-new songs including the first single Higher We Aspire which was playlisted at BBC Radio 2.
Inspiration for the songs on his 11th studio album came from a range of subjects – from the environment to love, death and self-belief. Recorded at Middle Farm Studios in Devon and produced by Seth himself, the album was released on his own label, Honour Oak Records.
