Cheese & Grain line-up for August

IT’S going to be a busy August at the Cheese and Grain with an exciting line-up of live music together with the usual choice of regular events plus an over-18s roller disco thrown into the mix.

Coming up are:

Friday 5th August. 8pm. Aynsley Lister – one of the UK’s hottest contemporary blues guitarists – many consider him to be among the best in the world. His unique brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary songwriting fuelled with the kind of heart and soul that’s missing from so much modern music.

Aynsley has crafted his own unique perspective on contemporary blues since he first formed a band aged 13 and released his self-titled debut in 1998 on Ruf Records. It’s been a fantastic journey so far that has seen him play with, amongst others, Buddy Guy, John Mayall and Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as winning multiple awards including Guitarist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and ‘Song of the Year (for Home)’ at the British Blues Awards.

Aynsley is currently hard at work recording his newest studio album, Along For The Ride, set for release via his own label, Straight Talkin’ Records. The new album, the third to be released by his own label, is a bold, confident and accessible slice of contemporary blues-rock that promises to bring Aynsley yet more accolades as well as introduce his genre-blending sound to a new audience, building on the 100,000 albums he’s already sold worldwide.

Saturday 6th August, 8pm. Black Uhuru. For over 50 years Black Uhuru has remained one of the most popular recognized prolific reggae band from Jamaica. The living legends have earned several achievements including winning the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music. They’re long success along with having the highest reggae record sales after Bob Marley & the most songs sampled by other artist over the years has allowed them to become Ambassadors of reggae.

Friday 12th August, 8pm. Over 18s Roller Disco. Something a little bit different for over 18s only – Frome Roller Disco are delighted to be hosting funky tunes for a smooth summertime roll, brought to you by London legend, Sydney. The temperature’s up and the bar is stocked – join us for the best fun you can have on eight wheels!

Bring your own skates or borrow ours – hire skates and safety kit (strongly recommended!) are included in the ticket price. Frome Roller is a community non-profit, dedicated to fun, inclusive roller skating for all abilities = everyone is welcome!

Wednesday 17th August 8pm. Everything Everything Revive Live Tour. We’re so delighted to host Mercury Prize-nominated art-rockers Everything Everything for the Music Venue Trust/ The National Lottery #ReviveLive Tour on 17th August. Don’t forget you can bring a +1 for free!

Friday 26th August, 7.30pm. Morcheeba bringing their signature chilled electronic/organic sound that has been border-hopping around the world ever since the London-based band emerged. Blackest Blue is the band’s 10th studio album, and delves into the soul of the band’s genre-mashing musical heritage and is about finding a way through the darkest of times and emerging the other side changed but intact.

Saturday 27th August, 8pm. Apollo Ghosts and Mighty One – live at the C&G’s new intimate sister venue The Tree House. Apollo Ghosts, Vancouver’s underground heroes, have been building a cult following since 2008 and are known for their wildly energetic live shows and series of spectacular albums that celebrate the weekend fantasy of being in a band.

They head to the UK for the first time for a string of shows around their appearance at the prestigious End Of The Road Festival. Their sound is a heady brew somewhere between the noise rock of Sonic Youth and The Modern Lovers to a melodic acoustic sound closer to Bill Callahan, The Mountain Goats or Yo La Tengo. They’ve been hand picked to open for Wolf Parade and Japandroids on US tours.

Mighty One are an exciting new six piece band from Bruton. The group evolved into a live band in 2021, with gorgeous vocals, driving drum beats, textured shoegaze, glitchy guitars and a large dose of keys, brass and orchestration. For fans of Sharon Van Etten, The National and Sigur Ros.

Sunday 28th August, 8pm. The Hammervilles’ Bank Holiday Beach Party. Popular party covers band The Hammervilles return for their annual massive bank holiday beach party!
