The ladies at Orchardleigh Golf Club had a very enjoyable time at their recent Lady Captain’s Day, which took place on a beautiful sunny day before the temperatures rose to such dizzy heights.
Around 30 ladies took part in the stableford waltz which was organised by the Lady Captain Anne Carpenter. They went out in teams of three and the scores to count were ‘one, two, three’ over the 18 holes and the scoring was assisted by some fun features with each team being given a mulligan, a throw, a kick and a piece of string.
Anne provided some very welcome refreshments in the freshly painted halfway house. After the golf, the ladies enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch in the clubhouse and this was followed by the prize giving.
The winning team of the fun competition were Liz Attenborough, Christine Arnold and Sheila Goodbody. There was a prize for the team that did least well which went to Nadine Stock, Catherine Szabo and Mary Ford.
A raffle was organised which raised £123 for the lady captain’s charity Sightsavers. It was agreed a great day was had by all.
The Orchardleigh Ladies’ team who have been taking part in the Rogers Cup, a Somerset county team handicap knock-out competition, are thrilled to have reached the finals.
They beat Worlebury at Minehead on a scorching hot day which means they go through to the finals which will take place at The Mendip Golf Club on Sunday 4th September and will play either Wheathill or Mendip Spring, who have yet to play their deciding semi-finals match. It is the first time that the Orchardleigh Ladies have been in the finals of the Rogers Cup.
