The Orchardleigh Golf Club Ladies section competed in a joint annual competition last month.
The Macey Cup and Pudney Pitcher are played in unison as the Macey is for the more senior members (over 80s) an
d the Pudney is for the spring chickens (79 and under).
This year’s winner of the Macey Cup was won by nonagenarian Mary Lock with a score of 41 stableford points showing you are never too old to play golf and win competitions! Pat Jones was close behind on 39. The Pudney Pitcher was won by Sue Sweet with 39 points and runner up was Sue Marshall with 36.

Following this, Orchardleigh members played in the Jefferies Trophy, a mixed pairs 4BBB stableford competition. The hot, dry conditions contributed to some very high scoring with Sue Sweet and Malcolm Lloyd bringing in the best one with an impressive 45 points followed by Ann and Steve James with 41.
The Sally Lock Trophy was played by the Ladies’ section on two consecutive Thursdays – 20th and 27th August. The winner with a one-point lead was Rachel Priddle.
The first round took place in some thundery downpours with the players having to abandon play for a while when thunder was heard. Play was resumed once the storm was over but the softened ground gave rise to some more challenging golf which reflected in not such high scores as of late.
The best score of round one with 34 points was Lady Captain, Jan Light followed by Rachel Priddle and Ann James with 31. The second round was played in more favourable conditions with no rain, with the best score achieved by Sue Marshall bringing in 36 points. Rachel Priddle came in with 33 points followed by Ann James on 32.
As the competition is based on aggregate scores of both rounds, Rachel Priddle was the winner with 64 points and Ann James runner up close behind with 63.
In the Bristol and District Alliance League, the Orchardleigh Ladies have recently lost two matches, their home match to Thornbury B 4/10 and the away match against Mendip B 5/9. But they were more successful in a recent Somerset Interclub League match at home winning 4/3 against Isle of Wedmore.
