LOCAL family business, A J Charlton and Sons, celebrated their landmark 120th year anniversary at the end of last year.
From humble beginnings in 1903, when Frank Charlton started supplying pit props to Somerset coal mines. Charltons now supplies wooden gates and landscaping products to stockists all over the UK as well as supplying royal households, Glastonbury Festival and even exporting gates all the way to Australia.
Charltons also has a local retail Timberstore near Frome selling landscaping products and gates to trade and the public.
Chief executive Anthony ‘AJ’ Charlton also recently celebrated his 94th Birthday and his 80th year at Charltons having joined the family business aged 14. He continues to be involved in the company along with his sons and grandsons.
