THE organisers of Frome’s Extravaganza weekend are thanking those who supported the events.
The weekend saw Jenson Button return to Frome with his Formula 1 car to switch on the Christmas lights on Friday 29th November; activities and entertainment in the town on Saturday; and the Christmas Super Market on Sunday.
Event production manager Faye Penfold said, “Turning Frome into a Formula 1 track was no small undertaking, and the event team worked non-stop to ensure its success.
“Pulling this event together in the space of two weeks was a huge undertaking and massive production behind the scenes, the likes of which has never been seen before in Frome.
“The infrastructure of the event was huge, and the team has a huge number of people to thank for making Friday’s event happen. These include Andrew Prince who worked closely with the local business community, the police, the Ambulance Service, the Fire Brigade, St John Ambulance, FromeFM, The Event Safety Shop (who advised on crowd safety), CTM traffic management services, Stuart Security, Mendip District Council, sound and lighting engineers from Bristol, Ben’s Sound, Eve Trakway (who supplied barriers), Terry Boss who spot welded all the manhole covers on the track, Mack Civils who removed all the speed bumps from the Cheese and Grain car park, and not forgetting all the wonderful performers who turned out to entertain the people of Frome as they waited for the grand finale.
“Keeping the event details a secret was hard work. The rumour mill had been in overdrive, but it was important to hold back the finer details to ensure that people didn’t travel from all over the country to witness the Frome Grand Prix. Concerns regarding safety were of paramount importance and it was essential this was a special event primarily for the people of Frome.”
The Mayor of Frome, cllr Dickon Moore said, “The biggest thank you goes to the people of Frome who came out to see Jenson perform and for their patience due to the extended road closures.”
